We are pleased to share the publication of a new commentary by Dr. Etienne Sibille and Dr. Thomas D. Prevot, recently published in Biological Psychiatry.

The commentary, titled “The α5-Containing GABAA Receptor as a Target for Disorders of Altered Dendritic Inhibition,” highlights the emerging importance of α5-containing GABA-A receptors in regulating dendritic inhibition, brain information processing, and cognitive function, commenting of the publication from Dr. Timothy Troppoli and Dr. Scott Thompson . This work builds on our group’s long-standing interest in GABAergic and somatostatin-related mechanisms in depression, aging, and cognitive dysfunction. In particular, the commentary discusses how altered dendritic inhibition may contribute to symptoms across neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders, and how targeting α5-GABA-A receptors may represent a promising therapeutic strategy.

By focusing on a receptor subtype closely linked to dendritic signaling, cognition, and neuronal resilience, this commentary reinforces the translational potential of α5-GABA-A receptor modulation as a novel approach for disorders characterized by impaired information processing.
